January 17, 2022: While attending a fabulous party at an in-home karaoke lounge, a buddy asked me about working as an assistant is like, and suggested I read a recent essay of Ann Patchett's, ("These Precious Days") which I just recently devoured. It's about an epistolary relationship with Tom Hanks' assistant, which already marks it deeply up my alley, but it also addresses convalescence in an unfortunately topical way. It is, basically, a masterpiece - I immediately ordered the book it's from from the library, along with a whole book she wrote about one single friendship. She owns a bookstore, and she adores dogs. This is my kind of woman! And my heart's a-flutter, as it seems there's a very decent chance she'll write back. (Photographer unknown)
