August 8, 2020: This is one of so many wonderful photographs from one of my all-time favorite projects, Lorraine O'Grady's "Art Is..." O'Grady entered a float in NYC's African-American Day Parade in 1983, leaping off to provide empty frames for spectators to pose with, collecting photographs from participants and pedestrians later. This is everything I love at once: photography, play, pedestrian celebrations, and a diffusion of the myth of a monolithic artist. And I do happen to absolutely love a parade.
