March 27, 2024: I've had a rather astounding photograph of one of the Santa Fe sunsets I devoured last January just waiting for the right recipient. In his reading from his new book at Big Ears, Hanif Abdurraqib revealed himself to be it. I want to find a huge chunk of money he can use to curate a national concert series, pairing artists with venues all over the country. People who have tabulated the years they've spent consciously witnessing sunsets ("I can't account for the first five years of my life") should be in charge of most things, in my opinion. He leaves me so tonguetied I find it hard to write to him, but I managed to add an envelope PS asking if he'd seen Darcy James Argue conduct a Levon Helm number, and ask what he thought of it.
