February 5, 2018: In November, I was sent Tracee Ellis Ross' Glamour summit speech, in which she invokes, thinking of beauty, her mother, "standing there, in the Diana Ross stance, right, in her glory stance, saying 'This is me,' heart open, hair big, sexual, powerful, and full of all her agency." "The Diana" has become a big part of my life, playing a major role in defeating my prior debilitating self-consciousness on the dancefloor, one of the recent major miracles of my life. Anticipating a lot of this in the escalating Mardi Gras madness, I wrote to Diana today to thank her for it. (Photo by Jack Vartoogian)
