March 23, 2023: I recently, while having an evening swim, spotted a rabbit in the patterns on the moon - apparently not an uncommon occurrence, though one I'd never heard of. I felt called to grab a bunny for my altar, so a neighborly pal and I went on a mission in the French Quarter. We scurried around chasing down the classic ceramic figurines from our childhoods - she knew exactly where to go, and was surprised the collection was gone. The proprietor led us to another branch, letting us know that the low supply was because the company had shut down. The other branch of this toy store has incredibly charming and knowledgeable staff, and let us know that Hagen-Renaker, which was American-owned and made, was lon longer, partly because Sue Nikas, was in congestive heart failure. Ie, if you're buying any of these (as I am! I scored a raccoon and mermaid, along with my bunny) they're the last of their kind. When looking up an image to include here, I learned Sue died last June. I hope someone in her family gets my letter, and takes the compliment to heart. (Photo by Irfan Khan)
