October 9, 2023: Occasionally I'll see someone I want to write to state a strong preference for email, which I'll accommodate. Lawrence Block, delightfully, writes back in kind, and even corrected me that while communicating with James M. Cain would require a medium, James Ellroy should be reachable. I'm writing as many of my dad's favorite mystery/noir writers as I can, having reread many of the greats he introduced me to this summer while in mourning. Block has high-res images of himself paywalled; as a result I think this actually particularly captures his vibe.
