March 23, 2023: The combination of two beloveds dying on the heels of Mardi Gras, a real sense of urgency around Sue Nikas' illness, and the fact that I was overjoyed to be getting back in my own favorite habit means I sent two fan letters in one day after not sending a proper one in ages. During my Santa Fe sojourn in January, I started listening to David Lynch's audiobook of "Catching The Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity," which has been my nightly listening since, supplemented by every video of his on the subject I can get my paws on. I've had a somewhat paltry meditation practice for years; this has been a great kick in the pants to kick things up a notch. I've worshipped Lynch art-wise for years - I live by the Dale Cooper credo of daily presents, as I told him - but it's particularly exciting to think of him as consciousness-expanding teacher. I sent him two miniature monk toys, because, why not.
