After years of sending daily postcards to my familiars, in 2016 I decided to up my own ante and endeavored on a (intended) weekly fan mail project. I consider this my analogue antidote to the trolling epidemic. I owe Sir David Attenborough and Jean Fritz a debt of gratitude, as I'm not sure I would have made a habit of this had Jean Fritz, one of my favorite authors in elementary school, not written me back (my brilliant third grade teacher had us write to authors!) or Sir Attenborough had, rather rightly, ignored a semi-psychotic letter I wrote upon realizing, after shedding copious tears, that he was in fact not dead as my roommates, during a viewing of "Jurassic Park,", reported. They were thinking of his brother, Richard, who plays Mr. 'Spared No Expense.' It was the haunting feeling of Attenborough never knowing what he meant to me that spurred me to action; it's entirely to his credit that he responded (on embossed personal stationary, no less).
